919 RED MALABAR Basella rubra  50-70 days  - A nice alternative to "true" spinach when the weather gets too hot. Used as a thickener in the Orient, and also in place of okra in the South.  Regrows rapidly.

HR 98 - BUCKWHEAT  Fagopyrum esculentum - Well known as a cover crop, but equally important in food value. In Japan, a flour derived from it makes delicious soba noodles, while Europeans make tasty Kasha dishes. Buckwheat is naturally devoid of gluten, making it a good choice for those on gluten-free diets. Can be substituted for other grains in the brewing of beer. Buckwheat hulls make an excellent filling for pillows; provides a natural alternative to those who suffer with feather allergies. Medicinally, an infusion make with the flowering tops may help with hardening of the arteries. Buckwheat likes cool weather; best grown in the Fall. Height - 2-3 feet. Annual.

A powder ground from dried pods can be used as a substitute for chocolate.
